wouldn't it be a good idea to have a dotsilver portfolio with all the partners sites on its site ??

We have discussed it already somewhere on forum. There is no need to hold a portfolio of all sites. We'll create this portfolio for big and custom sites.

Speaking of ideas, I have many great ideas but unfortunately don't have the time to implement them all. For me the time will come when I will have the time to dedicate myself as a real partner here, because I like the dotSilver approach.

Btw, I did check into the Drupal integration suggestion I made a while ago. I did a search of this board to try to find that post and I couldn't find it... But I spoke to a developer at Drupal (I specifically keyed on him because of his work on auto translation mods, and other international type work), and he told me it can be done. He reviewed the dotSilver software and said he would do it for about $1,000 to $1,500 dollars. He stated plainly that he would not perform any work that violates a licence.

That's a bit too much for my budget, so I didn't pursue it. However, I still see great potential in something like that. As an alternate option, I suggest cPanel integration via Fantastico. Anybody look into that? As a web host, that would help me sell hosting plans :).

Hello Rui.

Really interesting ideas. But we don't think that it is possible to consist our software and Drupal. Even if we take templates for consideration, because we have another structure.

And great idea about integration in Cpanel, but can you clarify what is Fantastico?

Drupal and Fantastico are different approaches to the same concept. The former uses a module, and the later cPanel integration. The former would be available for Drupal users only, speading dotSilver throughout the large Drupal community. Drupal has awesome ongoing technology development, you'd really have to take a close look to see how powerful that CMS is. Btw, I never envisioned using Drupal templates. They look terrible and crappy.. I suggested a core module and I was told already that it can be done. DotSilver templates would obviously be considered when creating this module.

The latter, Fantastico, would be available in all cPanel hosting accounts. A Fantastico license is usually the responsibility of hosting resellers at the dedicated server level. In other words, shared hosting resellers and domain owners all get it free, prepackaged in a hosting account.

What does Fantastico do? It installs scripts at the click of a button. All the user needs to do is setup a mySQL database using phpMyAdmin, enter the details in the script's config file, and then click the "install dotSilver" button in Fantastico. That's it! You wouldn't have people on this board asking about script intallation failures, as we see here all the time.

Advantages:

(1) dotSilver software would spread througout the hosting community and the world without much effort. It would create a ripple effect like a drop in water. Startups would have the impression of being able to create an immediately active website when they sign up for a hosting account. This helps sell hosting accounts, which in turn help spread and multiply dotSilver profiles and actual subscriptions. It would be a symbiotic relationship!

(2) Savings on time and advertisement. It would be self-advertising! Creates reduced dependency on search engine indexes and link exchange directories.

Information:

1. Live Demo Username: xcontrol / Password: cpdemo

(includes list of scripts currently being installed by Fantastico)

2. Netenberg

Note: I don't work for, or get any commission from any of these companies (including dotSilver). I am not promoting anything except ideas for improvement. However, ideas like this should not be shared in an open forum because it makes them a give away to competitors. I wish dotSilver had a private board for webmasters and hosting resellers, but unfortunately that's not the case.
