Featured members on front page?

Is there a way to add featured members to the front page? Even with randomly chosen profiles would be even better. If we could show maybe 2 male and 2 female (or more for each) member's profiles on the front page that would make the pages much more interesting to site visitors. Perhaps we could setup a section at the bottom of the page that loads the most recent "new accounts" in a specific zip code or pre-selected zip code search. Any ideas
